how much does a managing director make?

a few months ago, WSJ had a story about goldman sachs compensations. their partners (about 100 in total) have a basic salary of $1 million, and their managing directors have a basic salary of $500k. on an average, the bonus is about the same of their basic salaries.

 
of course executive managers (CEO and other chiefs) and some top traders make much, much more.
