Actually i had similiar opinions when I first came to USA but la

Compared with Americans with similar background (age, education, etc.), I started in America with 0 (no savings, no debt), but they mostly started their post graduation life with a number of college loans (start in negative), which affected their financial lives for quite a few years after graduation.
