cabin filter of 12 years

2013 Honda civic never bothered to change the cabin air filter. First time failed smog check due to crack in a tube before the air fuel mixing cuberator or whatever before the engine combustion chamber, but after the air filter box. This prompted to a few follow up items, i.e., bought the Haynes repair manual and started the maintenance item.
Easy in changing it, found a video from exact model and year and knew the location of the cabin filter; empty everything in the glove box; push the little gear knob thing to lower the box, press down the tab to lift out the filter: what a filthy filter there it lies, and what a difference fresh air inside while driving.
