Start at the basics
1. Make sure the battery cables are clean and tight.
2. Make sure the ground cables between the engine and the body and the transmission to the body are clean and tight as well.
3. This engine has a distributor, make sure the distributor and sparkplug wires are in good shape. Check inside the distributor cap and make sure no oil is leaking inside.
The other thing to do is replace the main relay, these symptoms sound like a bad main relay.
