a hole to stop the crack. I did to my minivan. The crack was about 6.0" long. I made a hole about 3/8" ahead of the crack tip. But you can't use a drill with a regular drill bit. You have to use a high speed grinder with diamond tip. I made the hole all the way through. The hole was about 3/16" in diameter. And then I filled the hole with silicone. I think it is better to "drill" through the top layer only.
If your car have insurance, you can have it replaced for about $100.
