One pedel drive is to use its driving motor as a generator to generate electricity to recharge the battery by slowing down the magectic field rotation in the motor, making it spin slower that the motor rotor. Any metal conductor in motion in a megnetic filed produces current.
Slowing down the magectic field rotation is done by an invertor.
