I sold my car recently. Since it's not cheap, I was thinking to make it easy by selling to a dealership. AutoNation's offer is better than Carmax, but still under my expection. I posted on Craigslist and sold to a private buyer within 2 days. I only offered him to see my car as I talked with a few people on the phone and decided which person to meet.
My major concern is the payment method. I don't want to take cash. Before the buyer came to see my car, we agreed on the payment method:
1/. if he has cash on hand, I'll go with him to a Walmart store so he can purchase a Money Order. Or
2/. if his bank is in my area, I'll go with him to his bank so he can purchase a Cashier's Check.
It turned out that me and the buyer both have account in the same bank. So he got the Cashier's Check and I deposited it right after. FYI , we met at the parking lot of a grocery store.
