Tread wear is not the only criterion

Premature tread wear can be discovered long before it poses safety risk.  But tires have several layers of structures inside.  It’s indeed high tech.  The tire can look normal before the structure failure.  The higher the speed, the greater the stress.

a few years ago, some small independent US dealers started selling Chinese tires.  Then there were deaths.  They got sued out of business.  I remember TV programs had special reports about the suits.

Now they are back.
