After sculpting 50 Baja 700s which were based on the F-150 Raptor, we thought we had seen Shelby at its best in tuning high-performance trucks. Surprisingly, Shelby is at it again. This time round the company has liaised with Tuscany Motor Company re-known for their truck customization prowess to produce a 700 hp Ford F-150.
The job doesn’t end with the drive-train; they go further to back up its huge muscles with an “intimidating” profile. On itself, the F-150 is an exceptional truck and has been the best selling truck in the US for the last 38 years, the entry of Shelby has made the truck even better. This is the sort of a truck that will make the likes of the Nissan Navara and other small trucks look like “toddlers”.
2016 Shelby F-150 Exterior
From a far, one can tell that this is not an ordinary F-150 as the truck features a host of tweaks on its exterior profile.
The changes start with the front bumper which has been done away with and in its place a tube frame unit featuring an opening for an LED light-bar. Another new feature at the front is the three prominent horizontally-shaped grilles. Its corners sections have been fitted with mesh guards. The front also features a polycarbonate hood. At the rear, the truck features a customized steel unit in place of the factory bumper on the standard F-150. The bumper unit features stainless steel rivets and LED light pods.
To complete the rear styling is a dual-tip exhaust system which is placed beneath the quarter-panel on the right. Other features include new fog lights, a beefed up bonnet and a new skid plate. The truck rides on customized 18-inch wheels which are wrapped in the latest K02 all-terrain tires from BF Goodrich. To ensure no terrain posses a challenge, the vehicle is equipped with 2.5-inch internal bypass reservoir shock absorbers with speed adjusters.
The vehicle also gets a unique paint job with the base model getting a blue paint and twin-white racing stripes that appear to “split” it in half. Customers can also order for the Mustang-inspired racing stripes.
2016 Shelby F-150 Interior
With huge power under its slacks and a matching exterior, it is only sound to design a matching cabin. The cabin is well designed and you won’t find any cheap looking plastic material in there. The cabin is upholstered in premium leather and will feature wood trim on a number of surfaces.
The vehicle will also feature exclusive technological features including a premium audio system, a large touch-screen with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and Smartphone integration.
We will inform you more on the interior styling when more details surface but you can be sure that the 2016 Shelby F-150 cabin will offer exclusive luxury, comfort and convenience not found in any other truck.
Engine Specs
You won’t believe this but Shelby made 45 high-performance enhancements to hook up the F-150 with 700 horses.
The base model is equipped with the 5.0 L Ti-VCT V8 power plant that delivers 385 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. To push the output to 700 hp, Shelby has added a supercharger, a huge cold air intake, high flow injectors, aluminum heat exchange and a billet aluminum high-flow throttle body.
To make sure its presence is felt wherever it goes, the 2016 Shelby F-150 is fitted with a Borla dual-exhaust system. With all these improvements the new 2016 Shelby F-150 accelerates from 0-60 mph in about 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 135 mph.
Price and release date
Shelby American will only produce 500 units of the F-150, so if you want one, you better hurry to one of the select Ford Motor Company dealers. Models with the stock naturally aspirated 395 hp engine go for MSRP $ 85,495 ,while to have the beast with 700 ponies you will have to cough as much as $ 98,995.
