Pros
- Cheap to make, cheap to service (usually)
- usually cheaper to buy
- if you are a bad driver its less likely you will loose the back end
- you have tons and tons of choice because practically everything these days is front wheel drive.
- if you live in a state where you get snow, throw some snow tires on it during the winter and it should be easily live-able
Cons?
- Its not rear wheel drive or all wheel drive
- If you get a ton of snow where you live, you may want something with all wheel drive for sake not getting stuck as easily, however, all wheel drive still doesn't keep you from sliding, good tires do that.
- Less "enthusiast" oriented cars; Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, basically front wheel drive usually = boring commuter car, but most car companies have dialed out any dullness from these styles of cars, especially if you go for one of the performance oriented models (Focus/Fiesta ST, Civic Si, Volkswagen GLI/GTI).
So I suppose its more of your decision verses where you live verses what you need to use the car for.
