Subject: | Water Leak in Rear Cargo and Tire Well Area |
Models: | 2004- 2009 Cadillac SRX |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A customer may comment the carpet in the cargo area is wet or there is a musty odor in the vehicle. In extreme cases water may have migrated into the second row passenger floor area. Further investigation may reveal moisture in the spare tire well. The cause may be water leaking into the vehicle under the liftgate weatherstrip due to misalignment of the flange joints (1) under the weatherstrip.
• | 3.1 Align the white dots on the liftgate weatherstrip with the center of the drain holes in the upper corner of the D-ring opening. |
• | 3.2 Attach the seal to the pinch weld flange in the upper corners at the white dots. Align and attach the joint of the seal in line with the striker on the lower flange. Seat the weatherstrip in the following order: The corners to the middle on the upper flange, the center to the corners on the lower flange, and then the sides. |
Important: When installing the new weatherstrip, care must be taken to fully seat the weatherstrip all the way around, especially in areas where the metal curves or changes in shape. |
Important: Once installed and fully seated, pull the tear cord to flip the garnish trim lip over the garnish moldings and headliner. After the cord has been pulled and the seal lip finessed, use a hard roller to seat the weatherstrip all the way around. Ensure the weatherstrip is sealed and has a good firm adhesion to the flange.
- Remove the weatherstrip from the vehicle.
- Inspect all of the flange joints (1). The joints must be aligned to each other with no off-sets. Align any offset flange joints found.
- Replace the weatherstrip with a new weatherstrip.
