The basic platform is derived from the W210 E-class Mercedes (1996-2002). Much of these components first appeared in the '82 W201 (190E) for the 5-link suspension which found its way into all the MB cars that were re-designed in subsequent years.
About a month ago I brought my Challenger to a MB club function (I also own an MB) and we put the Dodge on a lift for fun to have the MB techs (and the shop owner) look everything over. They were very impressed - way beyond the typical American make car.
Much of the rear suspension is the classic 5-link IRS that is E-class with some S-class parts in the modifications that Diamler-Chrysler designed on the LX/LC cars.
The front suspension has more revisions, but it clearly started off from the W210 designs as its origin.
Further 'Benz designs:
*driveshaft (flex discs)
*Brake Assist
*ESP
*vehicle electronics (engine management, IP cluster, canbus technology)
*steering wheel controls (very similar layout/function to MB)
*Fobik / Keyless-Go
*5-speed W5A580 automatic (MB 722.6)
In fact, MB dealers overseas can hook up a LX/LC car and diagnose the systems using the proprietary StarScan laptop to re-flash and download trouble codes from Body Control Modules and Powertrain Modules throughout the car.
The engines and Tremec TR-6060 are Dodge's specs, but the 6.1 SRT engine development got a big hand from the AMG engineers for those programs.
As it stands, the LX/LC line is quite different from most of the Chrysler line-up from electronics and suspensions in the other vehicles.
Other than the Crossfire (R170 SLK), which used most of the SLK models' hardware and Chrysler's bodywork and soft top mechanism in lieu of the MB folding hardtop design.
The Dodge Sprinter is an MB van badged as Freightliner or Dodge, and these use the MB powertrain.
