After years of back and forth, we recently learned that Lamborghini officially cleared the Urus concept for production. Now more details about the new SUV are coming to light, including the possibility of a Superveloce version.
RESEARCH
The Lamborghini Urus will be underpinned by the same chassis as the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga, with pricing expected to start around $163,545. Engine details have yet to be announced, but it has been speculated that the production model will be powered by a version of the Audi twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 currently under the hood of the new S6, S7, and S8. Unlike Audi, Lamborghini will pair it with an electric motor, and expected power output is around 608 hp.
While testing is still underway, Lamborghini has claimed that the new Urus will be the fastest-accelerating production 4x4 vehicle, beating out the X6 M for a 0-62 mph time of just 4.2 seconds and a top speed of around 186 mph. But power wasn't the only focus when producing the Urus. Lamborghini engineering boss Maurizio Reggiani said during the SUV's launch in 2012 that "the Urus will beat all comparable competitors when it comes to CO2 emissions," and that is would be "considerably lighter than its competitors."
But Lamborghini also has several versions of the Urus SUV in the works, including a Superveloce model. Also under consideration is a luxury model. "All options are possible and we will work on evaluating them in the run-up to launch. If our customers want to see something, we'll do our best to meet their needs," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Autocar.
However, until the launch of the Urus SUV, Lamborghini has decided to hold off on any plans for the 900-hp Asterion concept.
