This might help you

On a sunny day last year in Texas, my niece backed into a forward going civic in her high school parking lot. The driver of the civic didn't show any form of insurance when asked.
I, the owner of the car driven by my niece, called the number that the driver left with my niece. A gentleman answered and agreed to send me an estimate of the damage, which according to my niece's description would be under $500.
The estimate showed about $1,400.
I wrote an email to the gentleman I spoke with, saying:
1. He has nothing to do to this matter, being neither the owner nor the driver.
2. I can't deal with him because of the reason above.
I haven't heard from anyone about this accident since.
By the way, 4 years ago, someone dumped some cardboard in my recycle bin next to my car port without letting any one in my family know. I put a note on the cover of my recycle bin, stating I would exercise my right to the fullest extend of the law. No one has ever set foot on my property again. I think you now know how much right you have to defend your property.
