Brake Fluid
This is another important fluid that needs to be checked regularly. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture over time. In cold weather, that moisture can freeze in brake lines, making brakes feel sluggish and potentially damaging important seals and components. If you decide to replace your fluid yourself, it is important to use a new, unopened can of brake fluid when you add additional fluid or flush a system. Note: A small decrease in fluid level over a year or more is normal, as pads and brake shoes wear, but if the fluid level drops every month or so means there is a leak, and needs to be addressed.
