olvo Cars was founded in 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden, but it is now owned by Ford Motor Company. There are many Volvo factories worldwide but not all of them manufacture the same Volvo models, so each area that produces Volvo cars has a slightly different selection for locals to choose from. It is cheaper to buy a Volvo model that was manufactured locally than to buy one that has to be shipped overseas to your location because overseas shipping is more expensive than overland shipping. Also, the higher supply of Volvo models that are being manufactured drives the price of those models down for that local region. The following is a list of the countries where Volvo cars are built and which models are being produced there.
Sweden
With two separate factories in Sweden, one in Torslanda and one in Uddevalla, Sweden produces a wide variety of Volvo models. The plant in Torslanda manufactures the Volvo S80, the Volvo S40, the Volvo S60, the Volvo V50 and the Volvo XC60, while the Uddevalla plant only produces the Volvo C70.
Belgium
There is one Volvo factory in Belgium that is currently producing cars. It is located in Ghent, and builds the Volvo C30, the Volvo S40, the Volvo S60, the Volvo V50 and the Volvo XC60.
Thailand
The Volvo factory in Thailand, located in Rayong, has recently started manufacturing the S80, the S60, the V70 and the XC90 models. It also builds some of the older models.
China
There is one Volvo factory in China, and it only makes two models, the Volvo S40 and the Volvo S80 LWB.
