Gears are metal. If it does sound like a drum, it's you tires.
You just did rotation, likely and hopefully they also did tire balance.
So most likely, it's another case of tire cupping (edge of tire not round).
From my own experience and a couple of cases here (all Japanese cars), I started to wonder if the hard suspension of Japanese cars is the root cause.
