Directions: Directions from Vernal, UT: Take U.S.Highway 191 (Vernal Ave.) north from Vernal for approximately 20 miles. Turn west (left) on Forest Road #020; there is a paved parking lot with a restroom at this intersection. Follow Forest Road #020 for approximately 3.3 miles. Turn west (left) at Forest Road #018 (Red Cloud Loop Scenic Backway). Follow the Red Cloud Loop Scenic Backway (Forest Road #018) for approximately 12 miles. You will pass several landmarks on this 12-mile stretch such as Iron Springs group campground, Kaler Hollow campground, Oaks Park campground junction, Government Park, and Trout Creek. Turn northwest (straight, towards the right) on to Forest Road #043; do not continue towards Dry Fork. Continue on Forest Road #043 for approximately 4.7 miles towards Hacking Lake and Leidy Peak. You will pass Center Park, Soldier Park, Ox Park, and Big Park. Turn north (right) at Forest Road #026 and follow it for approximately 1.7 miles to the Carter Military Trail Yurt. Follow the mileage indications above and look for signs on the ground when traveling to the Carter Military Trail Yurt. Leave with plenty of time to arrive at the Yurt before dark.
