Clark Howard MONEY-SAVING MOMENT: A new era of value vehicles will be coming to the United States with prices starting at just north of $10,000 for a fully equipped vehicle that's fun to drive.
The 2012 Nissan Versa, built on what's called a worldwide platform, will be $10,990 (plus destination charges) for a car that has everything including power steering, electronic stability control, air conditioning, radio and more.
USA Today reports other automakers don't want to cede market share to Nissan, so they're getting on the ball with their own value vehicles. Hyundai is planning a fully equipped value vehicle for around $13,000 and Chevy has one in the works for $12,000.
When you consider the cost of the average new vehicle is $26,000 or $27,000 in the United States, well, you could buy 2 fully equipped value vehicles for that same price!
This trend is clear. Cheap cars are no longer cheap in terms of quality and drivability.
A fully equipped vehicle for around $10,000
