it goes down slowly-- so there is no noise.
When you release it, it bounces back vey fast like a spring does.
But if you feel uncomfortable about it, take it to a local garage and get it checked out.
It should not cost you anything, but if you have to pay someone $30, it is worth the peace of mind....
