How Toyota's brake-override sytem works

Yesterday, the dealer installed the brake-override system onto my Lexus ES350.

I purposely tested the brake-override system today under the following two scenarios:

1. At speed of about 40mph, my left foot stepped on the brake pedal while my right foot was on the gas pedal,
2. At speed of about 40mph, my right foot switched from on gas pedal to on brake pedal.

I felt there was no much difference between 1) and 2) for all my trials with different force on the brake pedal. Moreover, under both 1) and 2) the force level on the brake pedal does affect the braking distance.

As I expected, the software-based override system ignores (i.e., overrides) the signal from gas pedal while the brake pedal is pushed. In other words, the override system makes the brake/fuel systems entering the normal braking subroutine when both brake and gas pedals are depressed.
