Especially if you live in north with snow, well, even in the south you will feel sure footed with 4 wheel all time drive in the rain. I used to own a CR-V and traded for a Nissan because the power, cause had to commute on I10 free way which I didn't feel safe with the CR-V. Now I am living in the white north and the Forester would be my first choice when I am in the market though it's a little bit north in the price. But you get what you paid for..
Here are some of my buying factors for the Forester you may found useful.
1.Of course the symmetric all wheel drive.
2.The highest ground clearance in it's class, >8.9 inch, actually even higher than some of the legendary SUVs including previous generation of 4runner.By saying that it's good in snow.
3.The smallest turning circle which means easier parking and maneuver.
4.The largest windshield and side view in all side which means you can foresee many things and means safer
5.Clean exterior design. The beauty is in the eye of beholder.
6.There is a turbo engine option if you like.
I tested a 2009 X model in one of the Houston dealer. when stepped into the cabin and sat down in driver seat, man, it's so bright and wide view and you feel like sitting in a floor glass window living room.
The dealer told me let's backup and go. I checked rear mirror and side mirror with no puzzle and foot off the brake and little touch on gas paddle, the little puppy rolled out of the lot with easy, I smiled at the moment and told myself, it's much much better than my previous CRV. Couldn't wait to head into Belt 8 of Sam Houston toll way, left shoulder check and gently floored the paddle and I was on fender road, there were few cars in rear mirror and they were still far behind, changed left lane and floored gas paddle and the boxer engine roared and guess what, I merged into the toll way like a piece of cake.
One thing I think it should have changed it's the seat cloth, I don't like the texture sold in NAM. But the one from Japs web looks much better. Another thing is that it's a 4A transmission while other competitor got 5, even though I didn't feel the unsmoothness at all. But I guess it's the trend to have more and even CVT.
So if you like a little bit of driving pleasure and couple of hundreds or a thousand $ more is not the deal breaker, go for it.
Drove it, It's the best in its class, go for it you won't be reg
