Your routine repair needs data from Onboard Diagnosis system (OBD II) which can be obtained by a $40 scanner by yourself if you prefer.

IMHO, dealer service is for two groups of people:
1. Those money is not an objective.
2. Those who have 100% trust on dealer and 0% on self.

Event Data Recorder (EDR) is for further and deeper investigations of vehicle behavior, and is typically useful to recompose an accident, like where was the gas pedal, did brakes work, speed, steering angle, ABS, etc. For Toyota vehicles, you need to send your car to Japan to have this info retrieved. That's what the congressmen were not happy about yesterday.
