You are wrong about the weight difference between Taurus and Avalon. Taurus SE FWD weighs 3643 lbs. Avalon XL 3490 lbs. The difference is only 153 lbs. Not the 500 lbs you said.

And you seem not understand the meaning of the word general. The article said domestic cars are generally much heavier than Japanese cars. You seem not knowing that Avalon sales number is much smaller compared to Corolla and Camry. I don't know the numbers of Taurus, Fusion and Focus. Since Camry and Corolla are the top ten selling cars in the US. When you do comparison you can not ignore these two cars and use a model that sells to much smaller number of buyers.
