BMW X5 is a SUV whereas E class is a sedan

E class has been in market for a long time, a proven vehicle met a group of most demanding people. Normally, the owners of the E class wouldn't buy X5; in a same token, X5 owners may not buy E class. They belong to different groups.

I know E better, so I would buy E.
