With modern QC, it is not difficult to build cars that will last for 4 yr/50k mi. The real test is after warranty expiration.

X3 is based on 3-series, but it doesn't mean they are necessarily equally reliable.

Also, I don't equate Mercs sold in Germany to those in U.S. They are built in different assembly plants.
