After you install the battery, you should change at least engine oil before driving it. Basically you need to R&R all fluids (engine oil, ATF, Brake fluid, PS fluid; better replace coolant too) before your can normally drive it, for the best of the car.
I am not sure who told you to empty tires
You need to have around 20-25psi in the tires all the time. Otherwise your tires will be cracked.
