Water pump fails when it leaks coolant inside timing belt housing, that's much worse. I assume that's an I4 engine and it's cooled by an electronically controlled fan. The temperature dial indicator inside your dash is normally linked to a thermocouple mounted near the engine bock while the cooling fan is turned on/off by a thermal switch mounted at a side of the radiator near the fan motor. Some earlier Jap cars have above design. I am not 100% sure about Maz 626 95'and trying to give you some ideas, not necessarily solutions. Good luck in solving the problem, my friend.
