fail to display license plate, your help is greatly appreciated.

我有一輛舊車，停在自家的門口，因為要donate掉，所以沒有renew license plate. 不巧的是， donation process還沒有完， 卻受到了罰單 （fail to display license plate?）。

請問有沒有人有類似經曆？有沒有可能免掉罰款？
