Skip the SUV
I went to Towson BMW for scheduled maintenance service for my X5 this AM. I told the guy that I am going to need the car this PM. He checked with the service department and then told me that, because of today is Saturday with lots customers, they cannot finish the service in 2 hours. So he offered me a choice of either a 5 series sedan or a smaller X3 as a loaner. I took the 2009 528i xDrive. So I got the direct comparison between an SUV (X5) and sedan from BMW.
The X5 is kind of blend as everyone knows, although it is a very capable SUV with a big trunk for its "utility". But as soon as a step on the gas for the 525, the dramatic difference knock me back to the seat. The sedan version has just an exceptional handling. The ride is very sure footed in which you feel you have complete control (I was told the 3 series is even better). The ride is the best although a little too soft. But the driving dynamics far far better than that of the X5. You can take a curve or ramp with almost no leaniing at all.
SO if you really want performance and have driving fun, skip the SUV!
They don't open on Sunday so looks like I am driving this loaner for tomorrow as well as Monday.I get 100 miles per day free. I'll pay the gas of course.
