I agree that Axle oil leak is a serious problem.
I bought my 97 pathfinder on 2000. When I did the test drive, I heard wur-wur noice on the rear right axle, but I did not pay much attention since I only noticed on local road at night.
Then the noise become louder and louder and finally I found that the previous driver must have done some offroad or other stuff that caused the rear right axle bend. Too bad this vehicle is bought from private party, no waranty...
So I bought a new axle, installed myself, it seemed working fine, but it always had some oil leaking out, making a mess on my drive way. Must be my bad work.
I used hammer to punch the Seal down, I guess I made a lousy job and the seal did not tie closely to the axle.
Therefore, I uninstalled axle, bought new seal and o-ring, went to a body shop asked them to use a special
machine to push the seal down well. But that caused me
some money and a lot of frustrating time.
