I am afraid this statement is not correct. When the pressure is low because of leaking, the compressor will not engage when you press the AC button. That's because the low pressure switch cut the power off. On my car, I can make the compressor engage by bypassing the low pressure cutoff switch using a jump wire.
Also, clutch and compressor are different things. you can change clutch without changing compressor.
