I used to have a 87 Mirage which had the same problem

What happened was the head light switch was worn and electrical contracts got dirty so so current was cut off. Normally one should change the switch. However, since the car was old so I didn't want to spend extra money on it. I took off the switch, cleaned the contacts and then put it back. It worked fine for a few months then I just repeat the procedure :)
