it could very well be blown head gasket, which is very expensive to repair.

However before you decide to dump the car, you may want to try a product called "block seal" from autozone. It can seal head gasket. Follow the instruction.

I used it on a friend's 87 Civic and it solved the problem. The downside is the radiator got clogged but it was much cheaper to replace the radiator.
