The dome light is usually controlled partially by switches on the door frame. When the door is closed, the switch is pressed and it triggers shutoff of the light. The switch might be stuck in certain position so spray of WD40 around the switch may help to free it.

On the other hand, 2006 car is relative new so it's unlikely caused by this. It should not hurt anything by spray a bit of WD40 though.
