The position of Wikipedia as moral play has invited a controvercy with its predatory business nature. The value proposition of Wikipedia is based on a moral idea of democratizing the knowledge production, hence the consumption of it. In reality, the operation of Wikipedia has invited, if not invented, the predation of traditional encyclopedia of Britannica-alikes. Such predatory operation is not signaling any slowdown into the maturaty of Wikipedia. This is the nature found in tumor cells.
Does Wikipedia has any way of reclaiming morality? The answer is yes and no. It has to destroy its old philosophy and build a new. The idea of total openness can be only used to attract attention at kick-off. Its further maintennance will require much credibility and motivation. I expect either a collapse of the opennese sooner or later, or a collapse of Wikipedia as whole.
