讀露易絲. 格律克的《晨禱- Forgive me if I say I love you》

這首詩來自The Wild Iris 詩集（ 1992， 詩人49歲）第 12頁 ，是 7首晨禱中的第三首。詩集The Wild Iris 含有 54首詩，詩人以自己對花草，季節，以及其自然現象的觀察，以花名，季節及晨禱和夜禱為題目，表達了對生命，宇宙，時空，信仰，過去，現在和未來的思考。The Wild Iris是詩人第六部詩集，也是她影響較大，廣受好評的詩集之一，獲1993年美國普利策文學獎。這些詩盡管主題內容具有人生，哲理和信仰的思考，但是皆來自於詩人對外在和內心世界的敏感的觀察和思索，以及對詩這一藝術形式嫻熟，獨特，創新的把握，達到了很高的藝術境界，為讀者提供了素雅，深邃的審美享受。

本人是門外漢，對詩沒研究，隻是特別喜歡《晨禱- Forgive if I say I love》這首詩，寫這段文字，記述自己的感受，與有興趣的朋友分享。

1   粗譯

原詩：Matins 

Forgive me if I say I love you: the powerful

are always lied to since the weak are always

driven by panic. I cannot love

what I can’t conceive, and you disclose

virtually nothing: are you like the hawthorn tree,

always the same thing in the same place,

or are you more the foxglove, inconsistent, first springing up

a pink spike on the slope behind the daisies,

and the next year, purple in the rose garden? You must see

it is useless to us, this silence that promotes belief

you must be all things, the foxglove and the hawthorn tree,

the vulnerable rose and tough daisy—we are left to think

you couldn’t possibly exist.  Is this

what you mean us to think, does this explain

the silence of the morning,

the crickets not yet rubbing their wings, the cats

not fighting in the yard?

2   意境和解題

這是一首晨禱，意境為沉靜中的思索。讀者似乎看到作者在山腳下或山中的房前，在蟋蟀和狗還沒醒來的晨霧中，寧靜中，麵對山坡上的山楂樹，狐尾花，玫瑰，雛菊，對神的存在，神是否存在於萬物之中，存在於寧靜之中，產生了懷疑，為自己，為讀者提出問題。經過對植物，動物的形象，聲音的感受，似乎得到答案:  神就是萬物，就在萬物之中，在植物，生物中，色彩中，晨霧中，沉靜的自然之中。如果你沉下心來，你就能感受到，感受到神就在你身邊。這個詩人心中的神，可能是主，或是主宰宇宙的神，掌管萬物者。這是一個虔誠的信徒在晨禱中提出的疑問，向讀者吐露心聲的過程。這是一個虔誠真切的疑問，具有普世性，很容易引起讀者共鳴。

3   主題

有與無，動與靜，主觀和客觀，存在與不存在的思考。

這是一種辯證的思考。自然現象的動與靜，神的存在與否， 與思索的人的主觀意識有關。隻要你觀察思考靜態與動態的植物，生物，你就會意識到神的存在，而正因為它們的存在，襯托出沉靜。而沉靜則是神本身，就是神的體現。基督信仰中的contemplation, 穆斯林中Sufi meditation，猶太教中沉思，印度教中瑜伽，都有這種肯定神的存在的靜思。在佛教的坐禪中盡管不是肯定主宰宇宙的神的存在，但也是在體會宇宙暫時的 “有” 和永恒的 “無” 。在中國老莊哲學中, 也有對於 “有” “無” 永恒的道的思考：“有”隻是暫時的，“無”才是永恒的，原本的道。有植物生物的存在，山楂樹，易變的狐尾花，蟋蟀，貓的存在，才顯示出沉靜，永恒的“無”。

這一命題，哲理思考對於有無信仰的東西方人，有無佛, 道的信仰和Abraham的信仰的人都有普遍的意義，都能牽動人們的體會思考。

 4   形式

詩沒有分節 (stanza），共17 行，自由體，一氣嗬成，提出疑問，列舉現象，得出結論，好像靈魂一閃念，經過視覺，聽覺的想象和思維很快得出結論。又好似低聲祈禱，誦經一樣，不間隙停頓。

結構采取問答式，思辨式，反問式。明明有答案卻要引導讀者思索，得出結論：神就存在於萬物之中，沉靜中，隻要你去發現，感受，體驗。這是一個主觀與客觀的辯證，類似六祖禪宗慧能所說的：不是風動。不是幡動。仁者心動。

三段式：提出問題，用形象，聲音，現象論證，得出結論。盡管詩很短，卻又像奏鳴曲ABA， 主題，展開，結束，像三幕劇的戲劇 ，開始，發展，結束。而且最後一句，難道這能解釋早晨的寧靜，蟋蟀還沒開始蹭翼，貓還未在院裏打鬥？無論從內容上，還是從音樂性上都讓人回味，遐想，餘音繞梁。

5   風格

詩人真誠，凝練，短悍地，用自己細微的形象思維，觀察感受植物，生物，自然現象，提出自己對信仰和哲學中，存在與不存在的大命題的思考。有親切，獨特，生動，和誠實嚴肅的感人的力量。
