SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE STUDENTS

From the 1999 to 2001 academic years, there were a lot of students who were taking the Computer Programmer program at Fanshowe College in London, Ontario.  There were three ladies who were indeed successful college students in their career accomplishments; however, they had many differences in their study processes.

The first example is Jung Fang who succeeded in assignments including personal projects, group work, and tests and exams.  Originally, she graduated from Fudan University in China.  Her major was chemistry.  Since she came Canada, she has started changing her professional field because she said, “I do not like chemistry any more.”  After she took an English test, the college accepted her as a full-time student.  Even though her speaking is not good enough, she could understand everything.  She was my partner for some group work, I gave he my student number and she gave hers to me too, so I know her tests and exams are always at the top positions.  All of her projects were excellent.  Particularly, I saw her JSP and ASP pages through the Internet.  They were excellent.  In the last year of college, she applied to University of Western Ontario for a master’s degree in computer science.  She was accepted.  Even though she does not have preceding experiences in the computer programming area and English is not her mother tongue; indeed, she is an outstanding college student in Canada.

The second example of a successful college student is Xin Su whose previous advantages are a surprising memorization, active attitude, and self-confidence.  Perhaps her unbelievable memory was from her brain itself, young age, and previous practice because she studied history in Beijing, China.  For class activities and teamwork, she was always active and had self-confidence.  Compared to many girls and boys, undoubtedly, she is a successful college student.

Haiwei Lin is my last example of a successful college student who is smart, has good methods to learn, and likes to answer questions.  Even though her English was very weak, she passed every course and graduated in June of 2001.  She is smart and learns fast.  Maybe someone thought she was a very weak student.  Through her effort, she overcame many difficulties.  When she did not understand well, she liked to ask questions.  Before tests and exams, she could answer some important questions.  Getting a diploma was not easy for her; actually, she got it.  In some points, she is one of the best students in college considering her language level and background.

The above three students who have different personalities, background, and language skills are successful college students.  They used their own advantages to conquer many types of difficulties.  For the time being, they succeeded.
