此類騙子騙人的手法是，所謂的支票是假的，寄出假支票之後，他就讓人去你處，取走你想要出售的東西（這不，他說他的機票與個人旅行津貼都在其中，等他到了你這裏再向你要回），再要求你退還支票內多餘的錢款。就常理而言，人們決不會向不熟識者寄出超過應該支付的數額的錢款，可是此類騙子就是利用了某些人們貪小便宜的個性而得手的。

毫無疑問，騙子的母語是英語，但卻假裝成英語不是很好的樣子，故意露出很多處語法上的破綻，以誘人上鉤。
