Do not Sell Your Mineral Rights.

Yesterday I met a interesting guy, Grant. Grant is quite out-spoken, so we stroke a conversation. We talked about real estate. Grant said when you sell a property, don't sell your mineral rights. I told him the house I was going to sell is in the middle of the city, so it probably does not matter.

At this moment, the aircraft just took off, Grant pointed to a tower that is in our sight, and asked: "What do you think that is?".

"What is it?" I asked.

"That is a drill! They are drilling for oil there!"

The tower is right in the middle of a suburb city.

In a lot of places, mineral rights now belong to the government, and it is not to be sold between individuals. But there are places that mineral rights are still with private persons. If you sell your house, you can still keep the mineral rights! If sometime down the road the oil companies find oil or gas or other minerals, these minerals belong to you, not somebody else, and the oil companies have to buy them from you.

What a neat idea!
