Sorry, should have been: the streets , palaces, churches...
Catherine Palace and Winter Palace...
(not "Place or Places", gosh, my typing was horrible)
Forgot to mention, Catherine Place and Winter Place belong to Rococo style (1725-1775).
There is so much to say about the architecture of St Petersburg...
Finally, I managed to wander in your home yesterday. I was very impressed by many posts there. So far, I finished 【足跡歐洲 Europe】.
Due to limited time, I cannot comment them one by one, please allow me roughly say something randomly.
Most grand buildings in St Petersburg belong to Neo- Classicism (1750 -1850). It is a kind of revival of Classical architecture revolutionized both the way they looked and the way they worked. The crisp and sometimes colourful designs of the streets , places churches, and the civic halls of the city, so very far from Athens and Rome, do indeed seem modern, or fresh, even today.
Peter the Great employed best architects from Italy and France at the time to build this grand city. So in one of your post, you mentioned this city is like a kind of mixture of Paris, Venice...
For example, Catherine Place and Winter Place were designed by Francisco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. He was the son of an Italian sculptor who went to Russia in 1716.
In one of your post about Budapest, you mentioned the movie (Gloomy Sunday = Ein Lied von Liebe und Tod. I have been to this city too (another great city). I also love this movie very much. This song was famous but notorious at the time because it triggered a lot of suicides at the time. In movie Schindler List, it even appears two times.
I will continue to enjoy your posts. You are great! Thanks for the great enjoyment.
Praise is not enough from me. Borrow a quote from a photography I love for you. Thanks again for sharing!
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliott Erwitt
