78. Doctor Shopping
When I heard of the phrase "doctor shopping" on radio for the first time the other day, I was at a loss of words to describe my thoughts. First of all, let me clarify that it does not mean to buy a doctor, as in "grocery shopping", since most of us average wage earners cannot possibly afford one. It does not mean someone with a Ph.D. degree going shopping, either, although there are so many Ph.D.'s around nowadays. Actually, it means to visit multiple doctors with the same symptom(s) within a short period of time in order to get multiple prescriptions of medicines, often addiction-related strong painkillers. Can you imagine that?! Some people are nuts, bananas, or simply crazy!
