In some way, I knew someone, most likely you, would ask this.
I debated using "are" or "were". Here, because later I said the time in between is a blur now. So there are three timepoints here. 1999, 2 years ago, and now. So in that paragraph, I was thinking it was true at 2 years ago timepoint: "those days were gone", I used the past tense eventually. But I remember the song, is it "All by myself"? I can sing that sentence: Those days are gone, all by myself, all by myself, don't want to be all by myself anymore...
