That's why foreigners in China can pick up Chinese

so quickly.

Chinese are overly-friendly towards the foreigners in China. We are so generous and patient with their awkward Chinese. We are willing to correct them or teach them; We are eager to promote Chinese culture to them; On TVs, there are Chinese Karaoke contests for foreigners,Chinese speech contests for foreigners etc. In one word, they are spoiled in China.

Can you imagine such a comfy English surrounding for ESLs in north America? can you imagine native people here help you English with such ardor? Hardly no. We have to be initiative and bold to learn English.Like you said, it is a matter of survival to us.
I am not complaining about the language environment here, I am just too jealous of those foreigners in China.
