小的時候

母親說

夜裏用一盆清水放在床頭

能在夢中召回死去的親人

When I was very young

Mom said

At night, a pot of clean water on the bedside

Would help to call back, in dream, parents who passed away

 

我放了一盆清水在床頭

母親沒有回來

我把床移到窗口

母親沒有回來

 

I placed a pot of clear water on my bedside

But Mom did not come back

I moved the bed to the window

Still, Mom did not come back

 

噢，必須有完全的黑夜

母親才願回來

我氣惱這城市的電光了

 

Oh, it might require a fully dark night

For Mom to be willing to come back

I was annoyed by the city's light

 

蒙上所有的窗

等著黑夜的來臨

母親似乎就在我麵前

睜開眼

卻什麽也沒有

 

With all windows covered

I was waiting for the arrival of the night

Mom seemed to be right in front of me

But when I opened my eyes

I found nothing

 

該不是母親隻認識老家的路

我決意這個假期回到老家

睡那張母親生我的床

披上母親留下的寒衣

Maybe Mom knows only the way back to our old home

I decided to stay at my old home this holiday

To sleep on Mom’s birthing bed

To wear the warm clothes Mom left

 

 

夜如幼年時一樣黑純

夜如記憶中一樣的深靜

這是母親喜歡的夜嗎

 

The night is as dark and pure as that of my childhood

It is the same deep and quiet night as that in my memory

Is this exactly the night Mom likes

 

我默默地呼喚

回來吧

母親

兒子在等你

I am calling in silence

Come back

Mom!

Your son is waiting for you
