"Brace for impact" means "Get ready for a crash." These are words you might hear if you are on a plan that is about to crash. In the movie, the pilot and the flight attendants tell the passengers to "brace for impact." By "Brace", they mean put your head down and forward and with your feet on the floor. Being in such a postion could save your life. And that is English @ the movies.

Sully: No one warned us. No one said you were going to lose both engines at the lower attitude than any jet in history. This was dual engine loss at 2800 feet followed by an immediate water landing with 155 souls on board. No one has ever trained for an incident like that.
