Open heart surgery is the only effective intervention for severe mitral regurgitation. Considering his age though, less invasive approach might be better just like the doctor in China suggested. Transfemoral or such for mitral is still a cutting edge technology even in US, the patient should discuss with the doctor about the prognosis beforehand.
