幾周前, 醫院大查房 (ground round)請的speaker是MD Anderson 的甲狀腺癌專家。 talk 完了。本院一位資深醫師提問要求speaker解釋一下dental Xray和甲狀腺癌的關係。 speaker脫口而出: “我自己的孩子還從來沒有照過dental x ray” 呢。頓時,全場一片寂靜。。。事後,同事們說,他們記住的就是這一句話。。。Talk的其他detail都不記得了。

長聽人說,dental Xray 的輻射劑量很小, 隻相當於從東海岸到西海岸一次飛行的背景輻射劑量。 問題是牙科檢查的x光射線是集中照射的,而background 背景輻射是散布在全身的。Critical organ 受到的輻射很小。即便如此,空姐們的 breast cancer和skin cancer 還是比一般人高的。文獻如下:

關鍵是正如American Cancer Society 說的,radiation沒有safe dose。所以光照得少一點,防護得好一點,總是有幫助的。這就是所謂的ALARA。
。。。there is no threshold below which this kind of radiation is thought to be totally safe.
