Sometimes too much a burden could cause one to buckle. I knew one person (a chinese guy) many years ago who got divorced and was forced to pay alimony and child support. His income was in the $40-50K range at the time. Since he didn't see much hope in his American life, he quit the job in the US and moved back to China, just to avoid paying alimony and child support. I hope you can take this example into consideration in your decision making process.
