It is universally acknowledged that only with perseverance and optimism can we achieve our goals.
Take my own experience for example. There was a time when I suddenly became interested in playing badminton, but some of my classmates laughed at me saying that I would never play badminton well because I was too fat. No matter what they said, I just kept on practicing almost every day after 
school. In order to improve my skill, I even consulted some professional players. With two years passing by, I won the champion of our school sports meeting. All the students and teachers congratulated me on my success. Moreover, I became slim and much healthier.
From my experience, I am firmly convinced that it was my determination, self-confidence and never giving-up that help me achieve my success.
